Piecing Together a Living Online: How Most Entrepreneurs Start

Most of the time, when people start out wanting to earn money online, they try out several things to find good fits for themselves. And sometimes, they find one that makes them enough cash to focus entirely on that venture.

Earn Money Online

But most of the time, it’s best to have several sources of income for a couple of reasons:

  1. Freelancers tend to get bored or burnt out when doing one task too long.
  2. If you lose one revenue stream, you will need another one to fill in the gap.

I personally have 3 revenue streams to earn money online and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I love the fact that if I absolutely cannot bring myself to write one day, I can hop over to another job and make money I need.

So, where do you start?

My advice is always to start with one and then gradually add in others. You will figure out which jobs work for you and which ones you just can’t see yourself continuing.

Just to get you started, here are a few that you can try out that work pretty well together as you can pick up the work when you need it:

Earn Money Online: Freelance Writing

Writing is one of the most lucrative and easy-to-start careers to earn money online. If you can string some words together in an interesting way, it’s totally possible to make 6 figures from this alone. But if you’re looking for a way to fill in the income gap by picking up a little extra cash, you can start with these websites:

This is THE course I took that skyrocketed my freelance writing career in just a few months. It’s priced very reasonably and worth every penny! Click Here for more information.

Fair warning – these sites are what are known as content mills and the pay is very low in most cases, but I still use them once in a while to meet a daily income goal here and there, so it doesn’t hurt to check them out. It’s also a great way to get some writing practice in.

Transcription

Transcription can involve transcribing audio, captioning or other data entry, and there are lots of companies out there that offer work.

Some people do claim to make at least above minimum wage with this type of thing, but it takes a little time and practice to get hired by some of the better-known companies.

A few to try out:

Virtual Assistant

Second to freelance writing, this is another one of the most profitable ways to earn money online. With all the new online businesses popping up every day, virtual assistance has emerged as a forerunner in online service-based work.

There are several great courses out there designed to get you started getting your own clients, but if you’d like to pick up a job here and there like I do, try out one of the following sites:

How I Put It All Together

My earn money online  journey will probably be different than yours, but I will tell you exactly how I make my living.

Accounting – I have an accounting degree and a couple of days a week, I work for a local accounting firm. They allow me to do the work from home, but I prefer to go into the office those two days for several reasons. During tax season, this makes up about 60% of my income.

Freelance Writing – This is my main source of income most of the year. I have mostly private clients, but I will sometimes write for a content mill like Blogmutt to meet a daily income quota I set for myself.

VA Work – Currently, I have some clients I do VA work for. I actually never sought out to do this to begin with. It just kind of evolved naturally from finding out things my writing clients needed done. I also recently signed on to Fancy Hands to fill in some gaps in income like I do with Blogmutt, but I haven’t done much there yet. It seems to be a fun way to earn a few bucks, 20 minutes at a time.

Before I started making an excellent living writing, I also ran an eBay store. I don’t love doing that anymore because storing all that junk became intrusive for me. But if you like that sort of thing, you can read here about how to get started.

How You Can Put It All Together

Personally, I love working this way because I get bored easily, and because I have had months where one source of income completely dried up and I needed something to fall back on.

Your journey will likely be different than mine. What I like doing and what works for you might be completely different. What I have found to be the best method for this type of work is to set a daily income goal for myself simply based on my monthly income need. That way, if I get to the end of my work day and I am $20 short, I can hop on one of my backup sites and churn out a few easy articles or do some VA tasks.

Bottom Line

Entrepreneurs are the only people who will work 80 hours a week to avoid working 40 hours a week. Lori Greiner

This quote truly sums it up. You may not have to work 80 hours to earn a living, but most entrepreneurs are willing to. The truth is, once you’ve established yourself, you can make much better money online than working a day job, but if you’re ready to jump in with both feet, and don’t know where to start, this is what I recommend.

I’ve only covered a tiny portion of the things you can do  to earn money online. There is also online selling, customer service jobs, microtasks…you name it. But I’ve provided you some of the best and easiest to start with.
